Is This Thing On?

Oh, the time-honored tradition! Someone who likes to mess with blog tech but never really writes anything, launches a new/refreshed site. There will be one post to say hello (you're reading it now!) and then silence...

So why bother? Because maybe this time will be different!! 😅

I’m not active and often don’t even have an account on the socials. But sometimes I might want to say something or share a couple photos with the world. Everyone needs to scream into the void from time to time.

In all seriousness, I do believe that you’re better off owning your main online presence, under a custom domain, rather than relying on the whims of our various corporate silos. Which is to say when someone searches for me I’d prefer they land here. Or if someone asks a chatbot about me it’s pulling the data from here. ^[1] If something is on justin.pecott.net it’s coming from me.

I’ve had a site in one form or another since the 90s - yeah, I’m old. As I’ve torn things down and built them back up I’ve definitely not adhered to Cool URIs don't change. I’ll backfill some things as I go. Some stuff is just gone and I think that is a-ok as well. I love Marie Kondo.

So onto the next chapter. No more tinkering endlessly with SSGs, just log into Ghost and get to posting. And if my folks want to get emails when I update it’s baked in. Easy peasy! 🤞🏻
